Through a combination of short essays and cowboy poetry, this book celebrates the integrity, personality, love of work and loyalty of working ranch dogs. These dogs represent many different breeds for cattle, sheep and goat herding, including the Catahoula hound, the Queensland cattle dog (heeler), the Border collie, the Australian shepherd, the black mouth cur and, of course, the occasional mongrel. When in their element, doing what they have been bred and trained to do, there are few things that can compare to the sheer joy and amazement one experiences while looking on in disbelief.
