The company was established in 1976 by founders Rod Pressel and Dan
Evans in Columbus, Ohio. At the time, the two entrepreneurs started the
company with 4,000 sq. ft. of selling space. Soon, additions to the
company were made adding a second floor warehouse, larger showroom
space and a custom chap shop.
These changes increased the square footage at Rod's to 17,000 sq. ft.
In 1988, long-time employee and manager, Scott Hartle purchased the
Company and assumed the position of President which he holds today.
Under Hartle's leadership, Rod's has grown to be one of the leading
Western apparel and tack stores in the Midwest.
In 1990, the Company saw an opportunity to increase sales by adding a
catalog operation. This side of their business has continued to grow
and now includes 5 annual mailings plus an in-house call center.
Rods.com was launched in 1996. With the increased volume of sales,
Rod's expanded their warehouse facilities which now services both
online and offline sales and fulfillment needs.
In addition to their catalog and retail business, Rod's is an active
marketer and sponsor in many equine and horse shows and events across
the United States. The largest of these events, The All American
Quarter Horse Congress, is held near Rod's retail store on the Ohio
State Fairgrounds. Rod's will continue to support this event through
their large selection of merchandise as well as through sponsorships.
